GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN - The Michigan Hand Center is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Burgess to its team of physicians and welcome him back to the west Michigan area. Dr. Burgess earned his undergraduate degree at Hope College and his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine.
Dr. Burgess joins the Michigan Hand Center from his Specialty Fellowship in Hand and Microsurgery at Mary S. Stern, a comprehensive, twelve-month, post-residency training program designed for Board Eligible or Board Certified Orthopaedic, Plastic, or General surgeons who aspire to be clinical hand surgeons. The Mary S. Stern Hand and Microsurgery Fellowship is affiliated with Tri-Health and the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
Prior to the Mary S. Stern fellowship, Dr. Burgess did his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Training at the University of North Carolina and currently serves as Education Committee Member at the UNC Department of Orthopaedics.
Dr. Burgess has presented at several Orthopaedic Grand Rounds, the North Carolina Hand Society, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons on topics including:
- Ulnar Nerve Complications Following ORIF of Distal Humerus Fractures
- Digital Replantation and Amputation
- Distal Humerus Fractures
- Operative Treatment of Clavicle Fractures
- Congenital Hand Deformities
- Salvage of the End-Stage Elbow
An avid water sports fan, Dr. Burgess participated in Men’s Swimming at Hope College and was a water polo coach for Holland and Holland Christian High Schools. He also enjoys camping, biking and reading.
